iPhone XR is one of Apple’s all-time top selling iPhones and offers incredible value for money. iPhone XR also offers the maximum battery life among the X series iPhones due to its massive 2940 mah battery. However, the XR ships with a slow 5-watt Apple charger that takes forever to charge it.

The good news is that iPhone XR supports fast 18-watt USB-C PD charging to charge the XR about 3 times fasterfrom zero to 50% in just 30 minutes with a USB-C PD charger or USB_C PD power bank. All you need for this is a USB-C to Lightning cable to connect your USB-C charger or PD power bank with the XR. This fast-charges your XR 3 times faster for just $20 or less.

If you want a lower cost solution, you can also charge iPhone XR faster with 2.4 amp chargers at a speed of zero to 50% in about 1 hour. While this is not as fast as USB-C PD chargers or USB-C PD power banks, it is still much faster than the Apple 5-watt XR charger and is cheaper as you can use your existing Lightning cable. However, as latest iPhones such as iPhone 13 & 12 series do not come with a charger in box, a USB-C PD charger will be a future-proof and long lasting fast-charge option.

Here are some ways to charge iPhone XR faster –

Charge iPhone XR fastest with USB-C PD charger

iPhone XR supports 18-watt USB-C PD fast charging and a good USB-C PD charger with output of 18-watt or higher can be used to charge the iPhone XR fast from empty to 50% in 30 minutes.

If you require only one charging port, we recommend the Anker PowerPort III Nano or AmazonBasics 30-watt PD charger . Another good option is to use a dual port PD charger such as AmazonBasics 36-watt dual PD charger or  Anker 30-watt PowerPort Speed Duo charger  as this lets you charge two phones, or an iPhone XR and an iPad, or the XR and a power bank at same time from one power outlet.

Anker 30-watt PowerPort Speed Duo will fast-charge the iPhone XR at its fastest possible charging speed

If you have a Macbook or an iPad Pro, you can use a dual PD port charger such as ZMI triple-port 60-watt PD charger or  Anker PowerPort 60-watt dual PD charger to charge the Macbook and fast-charge the iPhone XR at the same time. Anker PowerPort 60-watt dual PD charger can charge Macbooks at 60-watt when it is charging the Macbook alone. When the Macbook and iPhone XR are charged at the same time using both PD ports it charges Macbook at 30-watt PD speed and XR at its fastest 18-watt PD speed. This is because  PowerPort 60-watt dual PD charger can output 30-watt PD + 30-watt PD when both PD ports are used at same time.

Another capable high output alternative for Macbooks and XR are AmazonBasics dual-port 68-watt USB-C PD charger or  Anker 60-watt Dual port USB-C PD charger . The Anker 60-watt PD charger charges Macbooks at high 60 watt output and charges iPhone XR at 18-watt.

The latest technology trend in chargers is GAN chargers that use Gallium Nitride (GAN) components instead of silicon components. Gan chargers weigh almost half as traditional silicon chargers and are also much more compact as well. Good GaN chargers for XR are AmazonBasics dual-port 60-watt GaN PD charger and Anker Atom III PD 60-watt charger.

You can also use all newer Macbook Air/Pro USB-C chargers including MacBook 29/31/61/87-watt chargers to fast-charge the XR.

Fast Charge iPhone XR with USB-C PD power bank

USB-C PD portable chargers are another convenient way to charge the iPhone XR at fastest speed of empty to 50% in 30 minutes. PD power banks are also future-proof and most suited as portable chargers for iPhones as they support all current/upcoming iPhones and iPads including iPhone 12 series.

Anker PowerCore Slim 10000 USB-C PD is a premium 20-watt USB-C PD portable charger for iPhone XR and it is our top pick as best compact PD portable charger for iPhone XR. The PowerCore Slim 10000 PD will fully charge XR fully about two times or charge the XR from 20% to 100% about three times. The power bank it self can be fully fast-charged in 3.5 hours with any 18+ watt PD charger.

Two excellent value for money 18-watt PD charger options are ZMI 10000 USB-C PD and Mi 10000 PD. Both these chargers have similar build quality that is better than cheap PD chargers (though not as good as Anker PowerCore Slim 10000 PD). Aukey 10000 PD even comes with an additional Lightning input, allowing you to charge it directly with the iPhone XR charger in about 12 hours.

If you have also want to charge an iPad or have a newer PD-compatible iPad such iPad Pro 2021, 2020/2018, iPad mini 5, or iPad Air 4/3, it is better to invest in a higher capacity PD power bank.

MI HyperSonic 20000 USB-C PD 3.0 50-watt is our most recommended high-output high-capacity PD portable charger. This portable charger can charge Macbooks at 45-watt speed and also fast-charge iPhone XR at 18-watt. It has enough battery capacity to fully fast-charge any iPad fully once with it and still have enough capacity left to charge the iPhone XR once.

If you want a more compact 20000 mah PD portable charger, then Anker PowerCore 20000 PD is a good option. However, 20000mah PD power banks are best charged in fastest possible speeds (4-5 hours) using PD chargers such as   Anker 30-watt PowerPort Speed Duo charger  or AmazonBasics 18-watt PD charger.

If you want the maximum possible TSA-allowed portable charger with PD output, we recommend Romoss 26800 PD 18-watt or the Anker PowerCore PD 26800 30-watt. Both these massive capacity PD portable chargers get charged in just 4.5 hours with a 30-watt PD charger such as any Macbook 29/61/87 watt charger or the Anker 30-watt PowerPort Speed Duo charger .

Charge iPhone XR fast with Macbook USB-C port

If you have a MacBook Air or Macbook Pro with USB-C ports, you can fast-charge the iPhone XR by connecting the Macbook to the XR using a USB-C to Lightning cable.

Fast Charge iPhone XR with iPad Pro 2018 or iPad Pro 2020 chargers

All the latest iPad Pros (released after 2018), and iPad 2021, iPad mini 2021, Air etc come with a 18-watt or 20-watt Apple PD charger and you can use it to fast-charge the iPhone XR from zero to 50% in 30 minutes as well. iPad mini 5  and iPad Air 3  also support PD charging as well and can be  fast-charged with the iPad Pro 2018 charger or the chargers that come with the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.

While the iPhone XR gets charged at fastest speed (zero to 50% in half-hour) with PD power banks, it can also be charged at less fast speed (zero to 50% in about 55-60 minutes) with any 2.4 amp chargers. The 2.4 amp chargers are extremely low-cost and if you do not mind the slightly slower charging speeds, then 2.4 amp chargers such as Anker Elite 24-watt dual port charger or power banks such as PowerCore 20100 are the lowest cost option to charge the iPhone XR at twice the speed of the stock Apple 5-watt charger.

Charging through Android chargers is another way to rapidly charge iPhone XR and it can be fast-charged by almost all Android wall-chargers from zero to half charge in about 45 minutes (twice as fast as the Apple stock charger). This includes all new Samsung and other Android phones as most Samsung/Android phones these days come with 2 Amp+ chargers. Similarly, all latest power banks charge XR at 2 amps or more and will charge it from zero to 50% in about 45-50 minutes, which is quite faster than the speed of the original Apple iPhone XR charger.
